Mexico’s Park Royal Hotels & Resorts announced today its partnership with Duetto, the hospitality industry’s leading software as a service provider of revenue strategy solutions.

The resort specialist will onboard 11 properties onto the Duetto platform, optimizing the rates for nearly 2,000 rooms throughout Mexico, the US, Puerto Rico, and Argentina.

With more than 30 years of operations, Park Royal Hotels & Resorts is regarded as a leader in vacation experiences across the Americas. The company operates four distinct brands:

  • Grand Park Royal Luxury Resorts
  • Park Royal Beach Resorts
  • Park Royal City
  • Park Royal Homestay

The revenue leadership team at Park Royal will now optimize room rates using Duetto’s Open Pricing methodology, through its GameChanger revenue optimization application. This will enable them to price unlimited segments, channels, and room types in real-time and in line with market demand.

The team will also benefit from streamlined reporting, and easier forecasting and budgeting, through Duetto’s business intelligence tool, ScoreBoard.

“To improve when offering prices for each market segment, personalizing our discounts, and being more assertive when making a forecast are some of the values we are looking for with Duetto. We believe that there are many opportunities and together we can achieve them,” said Rafael Sandoval, Commercial Director, Park Royal Hotels & Resorts.

“The breadth of the Park Royal property portfolio, with its multiple brands, means that the team needs an intelligent revenue solution to maximize opportunities and drive efficiencies. We are delighted they chose Duetto,” said David Woolenberg, CEO, Duetto.

Duetto already partners with many hotel brands operating across Latin America, including Grupo Posadas, Grupo Hotelero Santa Fe, and RCD Hotels.

Noble House Hotels & Resorts, which operates a collection of 25 unique, experience-driven hotels and resorts, has implemented Duetto, hospitality’s leading software as a service provider of revenue strategy solutions, across its portfolio of bespoke properties. Offering beachside resorts, ski destinations, urban retreats, and hidden gems, each property has its own segmentation, pricing, and promotion structure. As such, the company needed a sophisticated revenue management platform to assist leadership in building a connected commercial strategy.

Noble House had been working with a pricing solutions provider for a few years, but when the company took over Jekyll Island Club Resort, which was running revenue on Duetto, the team was able to see the full functionality of the Duetto Revenue Strategy Platform. The decision was taken to roll out Duetto to all Noble House properties.

“Duetto’s Open Pricing methodology was a big draw because it enables us to manage all of our promotions and partners without opening and closing each individual channel,” said Darrell Stark, VP of Revenue Management & Distribution at Noble House Hotels & Resorts. “Once we took over Jekyll Island and had a chance to see Duetto’s sophisticated applications in action and work closely with the Customer Success Team, it was an easy decision to move all other properties onto the Duetto platform.”

“We’re delighted to welcome Noble House Hotels & Resorts to Duetto. They have an amazing collection of properties, and their company culture is also very aligned with ours here at Duetto,” said David Woolenberg, CEO, Duetto. “We firmly believe that great revenue management starts and ends with the guest and that everyone can be part of the commercial success of a hotel. That ethos is also at the heart of Noble House. We look forward to growing this partnership in the years ahead.”

Oaky, the hyper-personalized hotel upselling solution, and Duetto, the leading revenue management software provider for hoteliers, are working now as strategic partners to enable dynamic room upgrade pricing. The goal of this new integration is to leverage Duetto’s automated pricing to seamlessly increase hotels’ room upgrade revenues.

Maximizing revenue generation from direct channels is more important today than ever before. The new partnership between Oaky and Duetto will help hotels make the most of returning traveler demand. Sending personalized upgrade offers at the optimal rate directly to travelers via Oaky will boost the average daily rates and result in an overall lifted topline.

How the new integration works

  • Duetto supplies live room availability data and dynamic rates for all room types to Oaky
  • Oaky automatically presents available room upgrades to the guest at the optimal price
  • Once a traveller books an upgrade, Duetto updates room availability for future upgrade offers.

H-Hotels, a joint customer of Oaky and Duetto, has seen impressive results while piloting the dynamically priced room upgrades. They have reported an increase of over 45% in guest spend per upgraded night. Upgrade conversions have also developed positively since rates for paid upgrades stayed in line with the market and adapted to current demand and availability.

We’re always eager to test innovative tech tools if they can help us create a better guest experience or drive more revenue. The new integration between Duetto and Oaky is especially noteworthy because it does both. In the short time, we’ve been using it, we’ve seen a solid boost in room upgrade revenue all without us having to do extra work,” said Deniel Frey, Vice President of Revenue Management at H-Hotels.

“The potential of dynamic pricing or room revenue becomes clear to every hotelier who implements such a strategy,” said Erik Tengen, Co-Founder of Oaky. “Working with Duetto, we can apply dynamic pricing principles to upselling and offer an automated approach that generates extra ancillary revenue without adding to a team’s workload.”

“A truly personalised upselling strategy is already quite rare at hotels. Dynamically priced room upgrades and ancillary services are even less common,” said David Woolenberg, CEO of Duetto. “Bringing together Duetto and Oaky creates more opportunities for hoteliers to use automation to maximise their room revenue in a quick, efficient and seamless way.”

March 12, 2022, marked the 10th anniversary of the first line of code ever written at Duetto, hospitality’s leading software as a service provider of revenue strategy solutions.

From the very beginning, hospitality has been in our DNA. In 2010, our co-founders, Marco Benvenuti and Patrick Bosworth, left Wynn Resorts and set out to address the biggest problems faced by the hospitality industry: distribution complexity and optimizing profitability. Their venture started as a revenue management consulting firm but grew quickly as they realized the industry needed a cloud-native revenue strategy solution that could empower revenue teams to deploy and scale profitable strategies.

What began as an idea, as a way of doing business, of freeing revenue for hotels and casinos, began to take its current form in March 2012. By then, Benvenuti and Bosworth had been joined by a third co-founder, Craig Weissman (previously the CTO of Salesforce).

From that first line of code, Duetto grew into a whole lot more: an entire platform of unique and robust applications that increase conversion, guest loyalty, operational efficiency, and revenue.

Today, Duetto is the largest independent revenue management system in the hospitality industry, with operations in the US, Argentina, the UK, Europe, and APAC. As we enter our 10th Anniversary Year, we look back on 10 Milestones That Made Duetto:

April 2020 | Pulse Report launched

Duetto Pulse Report is a free, data-driven analysis of key metrics, including bookings, cancellations, and website traffic in the US, Europe, and Asia Pacific.

March 2019 | EMEA milestone

Duetto surpassed 850 partner hotels in EMEA, representing 150,000 rooms.

February 2018 | $80m Series D funding

Duetto announced the closing of an $80 million Series D financing round led by Warburg Pincus. The largest ever non-acquisition investment in a software company serving the hotel industry.

November 2017 | Duetto launched BlockBuster

Duetto introduced BlockBuster, an application that enhances collaboration between sales and revenue management, allowing hotels to optimize group and non-contracted business.

August 2017 | First Australian hotel

The Tank Stream Hotel became the first hotel in Australia to use Duetto.

September 2016 | Duetto launched ScoreBoard

ScoreBoard was introduced as a hotel business intelligence tool to offer more insights beyond manual spreadsheet reporting across hotel portfolios.

January 2016 | Duetto signs first enterprise customer

Duetto implemented its solutions for its first enterprise customer, NH Hotel Group, which at the time had 400 hotels and 60,000 rooms in Europe, the Americas, and Africa.

October 2014 | London office opened

Duetto opened its first international office, a European headquarters in London.

April 2014 | Duetto launched GameChanger

GameChanger was initially built for casinos, enabling groundbreaking new opportunities to increase revenue and enhance business mix decisions.

March 2012 | Software development

The first line of code was written for a new SaaS-based hotel revenue management application, Duetto Edge.

“We enter our 10th Anniversary year with a vision to become the revenue and profit operating system for the hotel industry. In our first decade, more than 4,000 hotel and casino resort properties in more than 60 countries have partnered to use Duetto’s applications,” said David Woolenberg, CEO, Duetto. “But we are just getting started. We’re growing as a team, entering new markets, and developing exciting new features to help hoteliers unlock revenue and profit. Watch out for the next ten years of Duetto.”

Revenue management technology and services company Sceptre Hospitality Resources (SHR) announced that it has become fully integrated its SHR Windsurfer technology with Duetto’s Rate Engine, providing clients with a loyalty program the ability to set dynamic room rates based off of members’ profile and value to the hotel property.

Duetto is a leading revenue management solution provider with a suite of cloud applications that leverage dynamic data sources and actionable insights into pricing and demand across the hotel. More than 3,000 hotel and casino properties in more than 60 countries have deployed Duetto’s applications, which include GameChanger for pricing, ScoreBoard for intelligent reporting and BlockBuster for contracted-business optimization.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, with offices in Europe and Asia-Pacific, SHR has a history of technology innovation starting with its Windsurfer CRS. Integrated with Duetto’s platform capabilities, SHR’s solution now allow hotels to offer a more personalized experience for loyal guests, including a tailored rate or custom package offer that is beneficial for both guest and hotel. This renders obsolete the age-old process of having to wait until guests check-in, and then offering them a manual discount.

In May, SHR launched its new Revenue Management System, dubbed Wave™ RMS, which combines machine learning with human intelligence to optimize hotel revenue strategies. Created as a result of the company’s alliance with David Moneo and the Spanish AI research team, Algorth, Wave is part of SHR’s larger vision of the Force10 engine, which is a combination of SHR hospitality and technology knowledge, plus artificial intelligence.

For decades, hoteliers have looked to technology to help measure and forecast demand so they could dynamically price their rooms accordingly. With data at their fingertips, hoteliers could make smart pricing decisions to capitalize on high-demand days. But revenue management and the technology behind it is evolving rapidly. As the world becomes increasingly digital, travelers’ behaviors are
continuously changing and so too must hoteliers’ strategies to meet and exceed their expectations, as well as remain profitable.

Before the turn of the century, in what seems like simpler times, hoteliers were hiring former reservation managers and front-desk managers to pull pricing levers. Now the process requires highly-skilled mathematicians, often with degrees in economics and statistics. The hotel business has become a digital numbers game, now more than ever.

Therefore it’s critically important for hoteliers to look beyond revenue and lean on technology to enable and empower them across multiple areas. Technology is no longer built for one specific task — to help drive revenue, for example — but instead aims to help hoteliers work smarter and more effectively, and to help them provide a better guest experience. Once those benefits are in place, revenue increases
will follow.

A reliance on technology can be scary to hotel operators. Some, particularly revenue managers,
feel automated technology could replace their job. But revenue management is no longer just a pricing function and the incredible amounts of demand, guest and transactional data available means there
is more art and analysis to the role than ever before. Revenue systems are a tool to enable revenue teams, not to replace them. Is it fair for revenue managers to worry that technology is going to replace their job?

“If the only way you are adding value as a revenue manager is through pricing strategy, you’ll be obsolete in five years,” says Mike Medsker, cofounder of Focal Revenue Solutions. “The robots are coming, and they are pretty good at crunching numbers and updating prices. “However,” he continued, “those that see this as an opportunity rather than a threat understand that by outsourcing the more mundane revenue management tasks to technology, they can free up their time for determining strategy, building culture, and implementing the holistic changes that will build long-term value for the hotels under their care.”

We know that revenue management is not a 9-to-5 job. There are plenty of things that will happen when the revenue manager is not at his or her desk and even some things, like spikes in demand, that could
happen while the revenue team is sleeping. This is where automation lends a hand, ensuring technology steps in and reacts in real-time to these triggers. As hotel technology improves, it will be able to do much of the tedious work for hoteliers, providing them time to focus on bigger-picture strategies. Opening the 2019 NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference, Chairman and hotel owner Jonathan Tisch said 42% of industry workers fear losing their job to automation, citing recent work from the Pew Research Center. To calm these fears, Tisch recommended working closely with employees on technology integration.

“Specifically, we need to ask, how can technology free-up our team members from more mundane tasks and allow them to focus their energies on high value-added service that only humans can deliver,” he said.

Today’s systems are handling much of the complicated, repetitive and time-consuming tasks, simplifying human processes and freeing up revenue managers to spend more time away from their desks. In ideal scenarios, revenue managers are “managing by exception,” or focusing less on pulling pricing levers and more on building strategies to capitalize on their most compressed days. With more time to strategize, they can assist in other important areas like digital marketing and distribution, providing departments across the hotel with accurate data on which to make optimal decisions. As an added benefit, they’re working a more normalized work week, spending more time with friends and families.

It’s time, as an industry, to look more holistically at the role of revenue management and ensure it is sustainable. We need to improve revenue teams’ quality of life, which includes improving the performance of the hotel but also many other intangibles. Technology — driven by data and
machine learning — can help hoteliers make progress both personally and professionally.

“Working together we can shape our own future — lifting travel and hospitality to new levels of growth
and prosperity,” Tisch said.
