Hospitality solution provider Angie Hospitality, developer of the industry’s first 24-hour interactive guest room assistant purpose-built for the hotel environment, has announced the seamless integration of its newly expanded line of Angie devices with hotel IP-PBX systems. As a result, hoteliers will no longer need to make additional and often costly guest room equipment purchases.

Compatible with IP-PBX systems used by many hoteliers today, the Angie device serves as an in-room SIP (Standard Initiation Protocol) device, giving guests the ability to either make offsite calls or connect with hotel personnel in various departments using Angie’s built-in voice control or high-resolution touch-screen. This advanced telephone functionality significantly augments Angie’s multi-purpose platform, which provides hotel guests with a wide range of conveniences through its award-winning virtual assistant technology platform.

Angie’s patented technology uses both voice control and touch screen capabilities to offer a complete solution for hoteliers looking to increase guest satisfaction, streamline operations, improve staff efficiencies and maximize revenue opportunities. The platform offers configurations to provide IP telephony, room automation features, energy management and more, through seamless integration with leading hotel technology system providers or as a complete stand-alone system. Angie instantly upgrades any hotel room, allowing guests to play their own music through its built-in Bluetooth speakers, make hands-free calls, access hotel amenities, charge their mobile devices, and much more. Angie can even provide guests a customized and secure in-room Wi-Fi network.

Now, by functioning as a plug-and-play SIP device, Angie is able to instantly connect with virtually any IP-PBX system without the need for complex integrations. This seamless integration with digital telephone systems provides a range of benefits for hoteliers, including a significant reduction in hardware and maintenance costs that are frequently attributed to legacy analog systems. Hoteliers can also reclaim valuable space that bulky analog servers typically take up in a property’s server room. With Angie’s telephone features utilizing state-of-the-art Voice over IP (VoIP) technology, guests are also able to enjoy HD voice quality, which provides a much clearer and crisper phone conversation experience.

“Today’s increasingly tech-savvy guests rightfully expect the same level of technological convenience they enjoy at home and on their mobile devices from hotel offered amenities — including the guest room telephone,” says Ted Helvey, CEO of Angie Hospitality. “With Angie, we have taken into account that the communication needs of each guest are different, so guests are able to either pick up a handset and dial an extension or outside number, or if they prefer simply say ‘Hey Angie,’ and ask to be instantly connected to the desired individual or department. Angie can also connect to guest’s mobile device via Bluetooth to enable cellular calls or streaming music.”

While both Angie Luxe and Angie Luxe+ models are able to serve as a guest room telephone, Angie Luxe+ is also equipped with a telephone handset for guests that prefer a more traditional experience. Alternatively, guests may enjoy touch-free convenience by simply asking Angie to connect them with a particular hotel department using voice command. Angie’s touchscreen interface further provides speed dial options for departments such as the front desk or housekeeping. Angie is also capable of fully replacing guest room IP-based telephones and saving hoteliers the expense of purchasing additional equipment by being emergency call compliant. Using an Ethernet connection, Angie can ensure that hotels can conform to state requirements for call stability, as well as other 911 emergency call needs.

Once implemented, Angie’s telephone functionalities have been attributed with significantly streamlining guest communications. For example, nearly half of guests all guests choose to leverage Angie’s telephone abilities to make calls and to communicate with reception.

“We were immediately intrigued by Angie because the solution can easily consolidate and act as a replacement for many devices in the guest room that either take up valuable real estate in the room or are costly and difficult to implement,” says Joshua Herron, Director, Technology & Experience at Innisfree Hotels which operates the Mercantile Hotel New Orleans. “Angie really is a full-featured solution that, in addition to its guest request streamlining abilities, serves to address a wide range of guest needs in a way that is far more convenient, effective and affordable.”

In addition to serving as a telephone, Angie provides each guest with the ability to access hotel and local information or make service requests using either voice interaction or the device’s built-in touchscreen. Other features include the ability to serve as a nightlight, Bluetooth speaker, USB charging station and a private in-room Wi-Fi network. Leveraging an integration with Hotspot 2.0 by GlobalReach Technology, Angie can further provide guest devices with a seamless one-time internet connection process that mirrors today’s cell phone experiences. While capable of serving as a standalone solution, Angie can also integrate with an array of disparate hotel systems to provide guests with voice- and touchscreen-based control over amenities such as televisions, thermostats, lighting and drapes.

Hotel Voice-activated Technologies Grow Louder With Angie’s Acquisition of Roxy https://hoteltechnologynews.com/2019/05/hotel-voice-activated-technologies-grow-louder-with-angies-acquisition-of-roxy/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=hotel-voice-activated-technologies-grow-louder-with-angies-acquisition-of-roxy&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=hotel-voice-activated-technologies-grow-louder-with-angies-acquisition-of-roxy Thu, 09 May 2019 21:00:38 +0000 https://hoteltechnologynews.com/?p=2900 As voice-activated technology continues to gain adoption amongst hoteliers, the competitive landscape of digital assistant solution providers just became a little more consolidated. As voice-activated technology continues to gain adoption amongst hoteliers, the competitive landscape of digital assistant solution providers just became a little more consolidated. That’s because Angie Hospitality has completed its purchase of the assets of Roxy, a competing provider of speech-enabled digital assistant technology specifically designed for hotels.

It was less than two years ago that the Seattle-based startup announced that it had secured $2.2 million in seed funding following a successful pilot at a dozen west coast hotels. Billed as a fully customizable in-room concierge, the voice commands that Roxy could handle were geared towards the same questions that would prompt a guest to call the front desk to get answers. Over time, the range of Roxy’s response system became increasingly sophisticated.

As part of the acquisition agreement, Angie Hospitality will assume management and support of all existing Roxy installations and customers worldwide. In a statement, the San Jose, California-based company stated that it is committed to a seamless experience for all current Roxy clients and to continuing to provide the latest advances in voice-enabled guest room assistant technology. Under Angie’s ownership, hotels with Roxy installations can continue using the same hardware and software. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Designed specifically for the hospitality environment, Angie has emerged as one of the most recognizable digital assistant solutions. The solution is built to streamline hotel operations, improve staff efficiencies and maximize revenue opportunities. Angie’s flexible, modular platform allows it to serve as a complete stand-alone system or, through seamless integration with leading hotel technology system providers, the solution offers a variety of configurations to replace the guest room telephone, and include room automation features, energy management and more.

In addition to its Wi-Fi, touch screen and natural voice recognition capabilities, Angie also allows guests to play their own music through built-in Bluetooth speakers, make hands-free calls, access hotel amenities and information and charge devices. Based on an enterprise-class, cloud-managed platform with secure, scalable and highly-available architecture that is continuously monitored in the Cloud, Angie has the ability to self-configure for each property and room as soon as the device is plugged in.

The stated benefits that Roxy delivers to hoteliers would seem to be well-aligned with those of Angie. According to the Roxy website, these benefits include:

  • Save Money: Eliminate the in-room phone with Roxy’s universally compatible phone functionality. Roxy also replaces the alarm clock, speaker, guest booklet and charging ports.
  • Operational Efficiency: Roxy frees up staff to do more value-added work.
  • Private and Secure: Roxy includes features to protect your guests, including a display that shows exactly what the device hears.
  • Information and Service Accessibility: Guests have instant access to hotel information and services without having to wait, walk or bother someone.
  • Sales Opportunities: Intelligently surface up-sells and cross-sells when it’s most appropriate.
  • Actionable Analytics: Unique behavioral, operational, and financial insights.
  • Dispatch: Automate information and service requests. Dispatch to the right team and the right time and reduce human error.
  • Timing: Anticipate guest needs and pre-empt services.
  • Feedback: Increase opportunities to collect and leverage guest feedback.

Last month, as reported here, Angie Hospitality introduced new technology to streamline guest Wi-Fi connectivity.

Angie Hospitality, which introduced the hospitality industry’s first 24-hour interactive guest room assistant purpose-built for the hotel environment, has announced the addition of PassPoint Hotspot 2.0 technology to its award-winning virtual assistant solution.

This next generation Wi-Fi platform mirrors today’s cellular connectivity experience, streamlining the authentication process and allowing guests to securely connect to hotel Wi-Fi with a simple click.

With Angie’s ability to provide guests with a private, in-room network in addition to an array of voice control and touch screen capabilities, the new Hotspot 2.0 integration further ensures that each guest can effortlessly and securely connect multiple personal devices, including Wi-Fi only tablets and laptops.

Angie’s ability to provide Hotspot 2.0 functionality requires minimal effort to connect, yet delivers the highest WPA2 security encryption. This is achieved using a one-time provisioning file that is transmitted to each guest device, automatically configuring the Wi-Fi settings and all necessary encryption protocols without the need for human intervention.

Once registered and provided with a Passpoint Hotspot 2.0 credential, guests are then able to automatically and securely connect to WLAN Hotspot 2.0 coverage areas anytime they are within range, including in guest rooms, lobby, common areas, meeting rooms, etc. where Hotspot is enabled.

According to a company spokesperson, adding Hotspot 2.0 technology to the solution streamlines and simplifies Wi-Fi connectivity, which is a common pain point in the industry. The next generation Hotspot works to streamline hotel operations as well, with secure staff access and IoT device support. Hoteliers can also monetize the solution by allowing third-party service providers to roam onto the network, enhancing the potential for increased revenue.
